As part of an EU-funded research project, STORCITO, Gjesdal municipality, in collaboration with SINTEF and Nimmo, will test new forms of sustainable shared transport in rural areas.
On Fridays, there will be transport from the villages in the municipality to the municipal center Ålgård for youth events in the church and at Veveriet. Start date Friday, August 28.
On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, there will be transport from various stops in Ålgård to the sports facility. This service starts on September 1.
Tore Glette-Iversen, community planner in Gjesdal municipality, is excited about the reception of the new transport service: “This will be something completely new in Gjesdal municipality. I hope that the service makes it easier for children, young people, and the elderly in Gjesdal to get to and from activities, and that the project can contribute to fewer choosing to drive private cars to these activities.”
For SINTEF, the project is very interesting and will hopefully provide valuable knowledge about transport needs and travel habits. Hampus Karlsson at SINTEF says this about the project: “It is very exciting to be part of a project like STORCITO, where we in our part look at how we can provide a better transport service in rural areas. It will be very interesting to follow the pilot project in Gjesdal and see what experiences we gain and how we can transfer our learning to other parts of Norway and Europe.”
